Pinocchio
OSCA single

koukai sareta kimi no bukiyousa ga hontou wa minna o tsutsunderu

“mou aenai?”

wakaku shinjisugita kuruisou de utsukushii kimi-tachi

ichido dake de kowasu uso
“yamete iyada yo”

takusan no pinokio kasanaru

“zutto mukou e oyoide yukou”

kotonaru umi
sukoshi deaeta

kyoutan tsudzuki no nyuusu bougai sareta toki

“nomikonda boku o kaese yo!!”

shibarareta kokochi
yuudou sareta kuchi ga aku
shiiki[1] o hirometeru

“daremo shaberanaide” to mimi o chigitte

hito no sei ni shite mo owaranai

“zutto mukou e oyoide yukou”

shizunda kimi ni nanimo iezu
asa ga kita yo
oto wa shinai

“shitteru” o kurikaesu pinokio
The truth is, your awkwardness--you who have been made to regret--smothers everyone

“Will we meet again?”

The beautiful lot of you, who seem about to go crazy, who due to your youth believed too much

Lies that break apart just once
“Stop it, I don’t want it”

Lots of Pinocchios pile up on top of each other

“I’ll go swim all the way to the other side”

Foreign oceans
could meet a little

When the news that continues to amaze was made to interfere

“Give back the me you swallowed down!!”

A sensation that could bind people together
A mouth made to inspire is evil
Now spreading word of the “Essentials”[1]

“Don’t anyone say a word” hissed in my ear

Even if it’s someone else’s fault, it won’t end

“I’ll go swim all the way to the other side”

Saying nothing to you so depressed
Tomorrow has come
without a sound

Pinocchio repeating “I know” over and over

Translator's notes: [1] "Essentials of the Three Teachings," the first major literary work from Kūkai, a Japanese monk who founded the Shingon ("true word") school of Buddhism. By "three teachings," he was referring to Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.
